Just another reason I’m a loyal Starbucks customer <3

A funny thing happened on the way to the theater … okay we weren’t going to the theater, we were going to Auto Zone … and it probably wasn’t even funny … but in the early morning light my caffeine deprived brain thought it was funny so I’m going to tell you about it. Also it sort of ties into Things I Love Thursday.

So like I’ve already said we were going to Auto Zone this morning. The starter went on the BMW on Christmas Eve so James is fixing that today and luckily was able to take some time off work to do it. If only every job had paid time off, but I guess that’s what you get when you stay in school for 5 years, anywho, so what better motivation to drag my ass out of bed this morning than “Hun auto-zone is by Starbucks, we can stop there first” That did it, I was up and presentable in about 5 minutes. Now  for a little background on our Starbucks trips, as I’m sure you know it’s a fairly expensive habit unless you’re drinking just coffee but I like the seasonal drinks and Starbucks is a treat so today I was totally feeling a Creme Brule Latte Venti of course. To save money James and I usually just split a Venti but we often run into the problem of him drinking it all as I like to savor it and enjoy it. So this morning while waiting in line I told him to get his own, but he didn’t want to so I said “if you drink it all i’ll kill you in you’re sleep” he laughed and the barista thought it was hilarious so when we got our drink there was this nice little note on it.

Breakfast of champions

*Don’t drink past here 🙂

I can’t think of a time when I was disappointed by the customer service at Starbucks, they are always so friendly. When I worked at American Eagle I used to go there almost twice a day and first thing in the morning I could stumble in there half awake (how i drove to work is beyond me) and mumble incoherently and without a doubt the barista would make me something amazing. So the long and short of it I guess is that i’m one of those people that will pay the extra money for the perfectly brewed espresso and friendly staff. Now if only they delivered =)

Cute jewelry that expresses your personality and interests ❤ This is one of my favorites!
From a fellow etsy seller, you can view her site here

Bold outerwear! Red is totally in right now and Pea Coats are always in style!
I just bought a black Calvin Klein pea coat for my birthday very similar to this one
I love dying my hair and red is one of my favorite colors to dye it so I try to avoid red staples in my wardrobe.
But this coat rocks!

I’m not usually an early adopter but I was desperate for a Kindle Fire, I had my old E-Reader for years and it was dying an agonizing death so for my birthday/christmas I upgraded! and I couldn’t be happier!

Hairbows, let’s talk hand knit bows! How cute!! InezGill is AMAZING! I can’t say it enough!

Slouchy boots! But really any boots! LOVE knee high boots!

My newest crafty project <3

Okay, so for my Etsy shop I make  a lot of “Cup Cozies” and they’re a big hit, but the ones I’ve been making for the past year are for travel mugs primarily and don’t fit on mugs unless your mug doesn’t have a handle. So I’ve been trying to figure out a pattern for Mug Cozies and I’m happy to report I have succeed!

^Travel mug sleeve (way better than cardboard!)

On to the new cozies!

My book recomendations for you!

So I just finished an awesome series, well started a series i guess i should say because the series isn’t finished but I have been telling everyone I can how amazing this author is! It’s been a while since I totally fell in love with characters like this. It’s a happy book, I mean there’s some drama but overall it has a very happy tone and keeps you up at night in a good way. So the first book is A Modern Witch, A Hidden Witch, and A Reckless Witch that just came out. There’s also another series called Witches on Parole that is set in the same “world” Read that one after A Hidden Witch.

I got these as Amazon ebooks for my new ereader, and I couldn’t put them down! And I can’t wait until the next books come out! Debora Geary is an amazing author and has a great talent for writing a story.
You can get the paperback for 7.99, or 3.99 for the ebook, or FREE with amazon prime!

“Can you live 28 years without discovering you’re a witch?

Lauren is downtown Chicago’s youngest elite realtor. She’s also a witch. She must be – the fetching spell for Witches’ Chat isn’t supposed to make mistakes. So says the woman who coded the spell, at least.

The tall, dark, and handsome guy sent to assess her is a witch too (and no, that doesn’t end the way you might think). What he finds in Lauren will change lives, mess with a perfectly good career, and require lots of ice cream therapy.

A Modern Witch is a full length novel, 81,000 words or about 300 pages. Light contemporary fantasy with a good dose of humor, a little romance, and characters you won’t want to leave.” -Amazon

I could go on and on about these books, but really, try them! You’ll fall in love!

I also just finished The Hunger Games trilogy. I cried so much!! I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s another great series to read, but if you’re looking for a happy book dont’ read these.

I just downloaded the new PC cast book Divine Beginnings  which is a prequel to the Parthenon novels which I enjoyed a lot. I loved all of her Goddess Summoning books. I’ll let you know how it is when I finish. I also downloaded the deal of the day, which was a 7 book set called The Witches of Santa Anna for only 2.99! I just couldn’t pass it up. So we’ll see how it is ❤

But overall, READ DEBORA GEARY!!!

Spiced Hot Chocolate

Since I’ve had my Kindle I’ve been playing with all sorts of new apps, and there is one called the Ifood Assistant which I love! It’s from Kraft, and I’ve used their website before to help me make grocery shopping lists. There’s a tool where you can type in what food you have available and it gives you recipes based on that, so awesome. Anyway, so I was browsing the hot beverages and found Spiced hot chocolate and made it this morning and it is so yummy! So I had to share.

What You Need
1 cup milk
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 square BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, finely chopped
2 OREO Cookies – I just made a batch of Oatmeal chocolate chip so I used that instead.

Make It

BRING milk and cinnamon just to boil in saucepan on medium-high heat.
ADD chocolate; beat with whisk until chocolate is melted and milk is slightly frothy.
SERVE hot with the cookies.

Gingerbread Cupcakes

I made these Gingerbread Cupcakes for James for their holiday work party. I had to double the recipe to make 2 dozen. But the recipe below is technically for cake and the serving size is 6. But cupcakes I think are easier.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup low fat milk
1/2 cup light molasses
1/4 cup melted butter
2 tablespoons honey
1 egg white
1 cup all- purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1. Combine the first 6 ingredients in a large bowl; beat at medium speed until smooth.
2. Combine flour and the next 5 ingredients; stir well. Add to milk mixture, beating well.
3. Pour into cupcake tins or into cake pans.

The Frosting I used was a basic cream cheese frosting.

1/2 cup butter
8oz cream cheese
2 cups confectioner’s sugar

Beat all together until smooth and creamy.

Nail Polish Trends

How awesome is painting your nails, well unless you’re like me and can’t manage to paint in the lines.

I want to start by saying my all time favorite brand I’ve used so far (i haven’t tried them all of course) is O.P.I. I have never been disappointed by their polish but unfortunately I only have 2 or 3 bottles of polish from them because they are pretty expensive. Maybe santa will put some in my stocking this year ❤ Another brand I’ve been using recently is Revlon which is okay, though it doesnt’ seem to harden as well as OPI does. But instead of $8 a bottle it’s only $2 so I really can’t complain.

Now I LOVE LOVE LOVE short nails, I’m not a huge fan of the flashy long fake nails, not to mention the fake nails damages your nails, which no one likes, plus it can get very costly.  But a short well filed nail can be so fashionable and chic! Right now I’m loving dark colors, dark purple, dark blue, dark red. but that’s just right now this summer for example I was obsessed with neon and super bright colors so it all just depends. I also really like the basic pale pink and neutral colors.

Now something I’ve seen around the internet lately has been dipping your nails in glitter eyeshadow! How brilliant! Great for that holiday party! I’m normally not a fan of glitter, mostly because people have a tendency to over do it and it can look trashy if done wrong.  But how cute is this?

Now for a moment lets pretend it’s summer … warm, beach weather, sandals everyday … now my question for you, if you’re painting your nails do your toenails need to match?
For me personally especially in summer, if i’m doing a light pink on my nails I’ll do a darker pink on my toes, but to me that still “matches” it’s not like I’m painting my nails bright yellow and my toes are green … so, do you care if they match or are you totally into the matching?

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

My apologies for abandoning the blog this weekend, I feel like it’s been weeks since I last posted, about the kindle, but really it has only been 3 days. Well, I got my KindleFire Friday and I haven’t put it down! I’ve read one book so far and it’s superb!! The touch screen is fabulous I can’t put it down! I’ve got pandora on it, and I’ve been playing words with friends and facebook and twitter work well on it. The Comix graphic novel reader is AMAZING! you can zoom in on bubble and go block by block, it’s fantasic =) I’ve read Blackest Night so far on it. And who could not love thousands and thousands of free books and graphic novels, i haven’t even looked at the free movies or music yet, between pandora and netflix i’m covered for now.

This weekend, Saturday, was my 23rd birthday. Nothing was planned so we just hung out for most of the day. I got some knitting done and we beat Mario Kart. I got some cook birthday presents though ❤ aside from the kindle James got me a new winter coat, which was desperately needed since a hoodie apparently isn’t sufficient for winter. I got my Grams package today and she sent me some sentimental ornaments for our tree and she also made me some really cool green lantern coasters! They are so cool I’ll take pictures at some point. She also sent socks and a cute sweat shirt that says “santa’s favorite helper”.

I’ve been baking today and wrapping presents =) It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, even if we don’t have snow yet. I’m going to cut out the sugar cookies and bake them so we can frost them when James gets home and watch Christmas shows.

I have also been knitting like a madwomen, I’ve been trying to do 2 or 3 coffee cozy’s a day but still can’t seem to keep up with demand which is fantastic. I’m also working on more headbands since they seem to be selling so well. And of course scarves!

Some scarves are ready to ship but if you don’t see the color you like I can always make one for you! I have red, purple and black ready to ship as of today, and I have the yarn on hand to make white, gray and brown.

And speaking of knitting I’m going to be doing a craft show in June, I know it sounds far off but I need as much time as I can get to stock up on product. I”d like to not take anything out of my etsy shop for the show.

My new Kindle Fire

As some of you know I’ve been itching to get my hands on the new Ereader by Amazon, Kindle Fire. Now in the past I have been very vocal about not being impressed by the new color ereaders. I have been the proud owner of the Sony Pocket ereader and have had it by my side for 4-5 years now. But, it’s a first gen, and it’s getting a little sluggish, I just had to replace the battery, but all of that aside it’s e-ink so it never strains my eyes. Now the new Color Ereaders are just (in my opinion) big Ipods. Not to mention quite expensive in comparison to regular ereaders. Basic Kindle $79, Kindle Fire $199.

I ordered a Kindle Fire this morning … So what changed my mind you ask? Well while my Sony Ereader was dead (while i was waiting for the battery to come in) I did most of my reading on my laptop, and I just don’t read for the long hours I used to so reading off an LCD screen isn’t as bothersome as it would have been 2 or 3 years ago when I was reading for 8 hours a day some days. I worked night shift for a security company and would read all night. The other big thing for me is that it can read graphic novels … big deal for me. And it would be fantastic to check my email, and especially keep up with my Etsy shop.  I dont’ have a cell phone so the only way I can use the internet is to get on my laptop, and i’ve had this laptop for man many years and it is not long for this world. But we have desktops so it’s not a big deal. But I like having the internet portable. It is WiFi only but that’s really fine as I hardly ever leave the house anyway. Now another great thing I read at night a lot, and my book light is very bright and with the LCD screen I can change the settings to “night mode” and it’s obviously backlit so that wont be a problem. The only other “downside” people have commented on is that the battery only lasts 8 hours … well duh, it’s LCD screen … Eink doesn’t use nearly as much of it’s battery so they typically can last for months. But really it’s not the end of the world if I have to plug it in at night. And there are ways of conserving the battery. Oh and did I mention it’s also an MP3 player, and has a movie player, oh and theres a (free )Netflix app. So I can put different movies on it and long car rides will never be a problem =).

I should be getting my Kindle in the mail Tomorrow according to Amazon =) but James has said if it arrives before my birthday I’ll have to wait until the 10th … but maybe I can convince him to let me open it early. *fingers crossed*

Once I have a chance to play with it for a bit I’ll do a review for ya’ll ❤
