Photo Shoot!!!

This is going to be a rather lengthy post … but it’s mostly pictures 🙂

I have a major backlog of cowls and scarves that need to be photographed and today was the day it finally got done… okay a portion of it got done, but it’s progress.

Previous to this photo session our pictures were just basic and in front of a white back drop, I was told to do this by a number of people on Etsy. However after listening to some advice from an actual photographer on TheCraftStar I decided to change things up a bit.

Needless to say we had a fun day.

No makeup, this is before the shoot. Someday I plan on doing a make-up tutorial since a few people have asked for one. I now have some before and after pictures! I generally only wear makeup for photo sessions so I’m a bit out of practice.

After makeup… man i really need to clean my mirror! Gross!

Moving on.

New oatmeal cowl, made from Peruvian highland wool, 100% ecological wool

Isis decided to grace us with her presence … for all of 5 seconds before she started chasing butterflies again.

The Rainbow Scarf! This bad boy is about 10ft long, I need to remeasure to be sure, but it’s huge!! Silky soft and knit with vegan yarn.

I had to rock my sunglasses in a few shots to give my eyes a break, you can see the colors in the scarf, and the pattern much better in this shot.

Last but not least, the Lacework Cowls are back again this year! I had a ton of requests for them last year so I decided to add them again this season. So far I’ve got this pink, and a green. And can do a various array of colors.

Work in Progress

Since the weather has been so uncooperative I’ve been working on things inside the house and things with the shop. Yesterday I got a lot of knitting done and hopefully will be launching a new website soon!

When I was at the craft store I found all these pastel colors, great for spring! I just couldn’t resist and I don’t have many multi-colored scarves in the shop so I figured I’d give it a try! It’s my favorite bamboo yarn very light and silky!

Still not done yet, I’ve got a few more colors to add and it’s already 6ft long!!

My plan is to paint one of the walls in my office white as a photo backdrop. The other 3 walls will be purple. I’m really excited to have an artistic space for my work. First I need to get a mannequin so I can take pictures by myself without waiting for James to have free time. I’ve heard from multiple people that they prefer to see scarves and things you wear on a model. It’s much easier to visualize how the product will look on the buyer, but with a mannequin i’d do both but i’d be able to at least get the shots with the mannequin listed much sooner.

All of our snow has melted from yesterday, and according to this morning’s news we should be warming up and be back to our normal weather soon. Which is great news! I have some tomato seedlings that are starting to pop up inside and a cucumber but I’ve got so much more to plant!

Fashion Trends I’ll take with me to 2012

For me 2011 was a complete roller coaster for fashion trends. I tried a lot of different things, not all of which panned out  (long boho skirts so not for me) so I want to make a list of trends I picked up throughout 2011 that I’ll continue to do in 2012.

This past summer I dressed very bohemian/hippy chic and it’s so comfy and awesome and I’d love to get more pieces but I need to come to terms with the fact that I look horrid in Maxi dresses and skirts either need to be touching your knee or touching the floor, not the awkward shin length that some of my skirts are. Unfortunately my summer style does a complete 180 when winter rolls around, I wear jeans, and boots with heals, sweaters and pea coats … not exactly boho or hippy chic … but I like it and I haven’t found many dresses I can wear in the winter, not that they don’t exist they just dont’ exisist in my wardrobe at the moment.

Let’s get on with it shall we…

Hand Knit accessories! I made this Cowl for myself and wear it ALL the time!  It’s so cozy and warm, I love it! I also don’t think it will go out of style 😛

Ahh, boots … I got these from Charlotte Ruse when they were doing the buy 2 get the second pair for $15 deal. They rock, and are my everyday footwear this winter. Like I said earlier my winter style totally clashes with my summer style. But I just can’t help but love these boots! and for $15 … really .. could you not love them?

My summer sandals are not so “dressy”.

I have these in both black (as shown) and in gold. I love them, I don’t own regular flip flops because they give me blisters and for whatever reason these don’t bother my feet. So these are my summer shoes. along with my high top converse which I wear with denim shorts (which gets me a lot of funny looks for some reason)

My favorite summer dress! From AE, I have this in white, and was very tempted to buy the other colors as well. It could be a tad longer as i’m not super lady like and have a tendency to hike through the woods to get to a swimming hole … but oh well.

My hair has grown a bit since this picture was taken when I was learning how to french braid a few months ago but I still do my hair like this, I love the side french braid. I have side swept bangs so it’s nice to have them tucked away once in a while.

Last but certainly not least, nail polish. I experimented a lot in 2011, and will continue to do so in 2012. I’ve gotten into a great habit of not letting my nails get too chipped and old looking before I re-paint, I’ve rediscovered the joys in giving myself a mani-pedi ❤ So light/neutral colors in the summer, and dark colors in the winter ❤

My New Years Resolutions:

1. Save money!
2. Get outside more
3. Meditate regularly

My newest crafty project <3

Okay, so for my Etsy shop I make  a lot of “Cup Cozies” and they’re a big hit, but the ones I’ve been making for the past year are for travel mugs primarily and don’t fit on mugs unless your mug doesn’t have a handle. So I’ve been trying to figure out a pattern for Mug Cozies and I’m happy to report I have succeed!

^Travel mug sleeve (way better than cardboard!)

On to the new cozies!
